about

Back in March 2000, Radio Massacre International played a concert at Jodrell Bank. Luckily for fans, Tony Sawford was there and he recorded the concert. Up until this point, this recording has remained unissued. As the band note, what was issued on the SMD release was a combination of this Jodrell Bank concert (11th March 2000) and the Alpha Centauri concert (25th March 2000).

Radio Massacre International were happy to give this recording for the charity compilation in honour of Tony (“Tone – A Tribute to Tony Sawford”), but it seemed appropriate to issue it separately – it only exists because of Tony’s dedication to attending such concerts and his willingness to spend time making such excellent recordings for the benefit of the bands.

Here’s what Radio Massacre International thought of Tony:

"Tony was typical of the kind of person a band like ours values highly. It's all very well making music in a vacuum, but with people to support it and help us get it out there into the world it lives and breathes. Concerts are social events as well as musical performances, and from the earliest days of RMI Tony was there to say hello and offer his valued opinion, knowledge and encouragement. A true music fan.

"I remember him setting up the equipment at this concert; the famous `Dummy Head' microphone arrangement designed to replicate the human listening experience. This gesture of support now becomes a fitting tribute to his dedication to the music he loved and it's our pleasure to present it here for a good cause and in his memory."

Many thanks to Steve Dinsdale, Duncan Goddard and Gary Houghton for their generosity in making this recording available. Huge thanks also to Graham Getty for getting this project off the ground and his energy and help in getting it finished.

All proceeds from this release will be donated to Addenbrooke's hospital (a hospital that Tony attended and was proud to have local to him).

about

Stonker Productions London, UK

Stonker Productions was set up by Tony Sawford and Andy Bloyce in 1998. It’s being resurrected in memory of Tony, who died unexpectedly in Dec 2021. Tony gave a lot to the UK EM scene for nearly 30 years; he loved the music and he was a genuinely nice person. All money goes directly to Addenbrooke's hospital. Tony visited it regularly and thought himself lucky to have it local to him. ... more
