Who are The Eloi Cole Collective…? I can imagine you are asking yourself this question right now. Well, let me tell you exactly who they were. They were Peter Chilvers, Rob Jackson, and Tony Sawford. Now the curtain has been pulled back slightly, but the plot has thickened. This recording is of a gig that the three of them did at The Corner House pub in Cambridge on 16/11/2016.
Where has this recording come from…? Tony and I were chatting about live audio manipulation and he mentioned that he’d been a user of a few tools and that he had a recording of a small gig that he’d done a few years back using them. He sent me the recording under embargo – he was way too modest to talk about this to people. So there it sat for a couple of years, just a folder amongst many on my drive.
I was suddenly reminded of it recently whilst thinking about Tony when I was doing some live audio manipulation of my own. I found the recording and what a total stonker it was. I realised that this just had to go on the label for charity. I sent it to a couple of others, just to check, and it was well liked. It took very little audio work on my part and then all it needed was agreement from both Peter and Rob. They both agreed instantly and both had very warm words to say about Tony and loved the idea of the Stonker site in his honour.
There is likely another question niggling away in the back of your mind: Why the group name…? I could just leave you to your own devices and a spot of Google, but I’ll tell you. Eloi Cole was an April Fool invention by CNET way back in 2010. Their headline read, “Man arrested at Large Hadron Collider claims he's from the future.” The story has many obvious references, including the giant one that the Eloi were one of the two future races (together with the Morlocks) in H. G. Wells’ novel, “The Time Machine”. The article went viral, including mentions in The Huffington Post and the QI podcast. It obviously still tickled the fancy of this group six years later.
I suggest that you read the original CNET story, you can find it here:

I hope that you enjoy this piece of 100% live electronic music, made all the more interesting for having ‘our Tone’ playing on it. As a bonus, I’ve added a picture of the three of them in the pub playing and also an alternative cover should this one be too much for you. I’m certain that Tony would have loved the main cover.
